NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa - The city of North Liberty will celebrate its 100th birthday with a picnic and live concert, city officials announced Thursday. The 80’s rock cover band “Hairball” will highlight the event with an evening concert.
The announcement comes as North Liberty continues an outward expansion. Within the last year several new strip malls have been completed along Highway 965.
“We’ve just really seen a boom in growth over the last decade or two,” said Ryan Heiar, city administrator.
New census data shows a population increase in Johnson County, while more than 60 counties across the state saw a decrease. The population in North Liberty is around 15 thousand, up from 190 in 1913.
The “North Liberty Birthday Bash” kicks off at 11 a.m. on July 13th. Tickets to the concert are set at $5.
