Nonprofit, Volunteer Leaders Gather for Summit

ALTOONA, Iowa (AP) - More than 250 leaders of nonprofit and volunteer organizations are meeting in Altoona at the sixth annual Iowa Nonprofit Summit.

The two-day event Wednesday and Thursday provides a series of workshops and discussions on topics including developing nonprofit boards, communications and social media, volunteer management, and mentoring.

Gov. Terry Branstad will present a nonprofit collaboration award on Thursday morning to the Dubuque National Service Partnership for demonstrating excellence in the nonprofit sector.

The keynote speaker Wednesday is Betty Stallings, a speaker and author who will focus on ways to enhance the potential impact of volunteers.

Thursday's keynote will be delivered by John Bridgeland, co-chairman of the Franklin Project, which aims to make national volunteer service a common expectation and common opportunity for all citizens.
