CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Authorities have determined a dummy grenade was found at the Can Shed Wednesday afternoon.

Officials responded to the Can Shed, 4121 16th Ave. SW around 1:30 p.m. Lt. Tobey Harrison said a bag came through the line with what appeared to be a hand grenade. An employee brought it to another employee who then placed the object on the ground outside near the south end of the building and called police, Harrison said.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department's Bomb Squad sent a robot to further investigate and determined the object to be a dummy grenade. Harrison said sometimes dummy grenades are used as military training aids.

Authorities blocked off Wiley Boulevard between 16th and 18th Avenues for around 45 minutes while officials investigated. No one was injured.

The robot has video abilities as well as arms to pick up objects, Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said. The robot helps keep officers safe.
