New Details in Iowa City Shooting, Others Feared Being Shot

IOWA CITY, Iowa - New details are emerging in an Iowa City shooting that sent a woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries last weekend. According to a criminal complaint released late Friday afternoon, the victim was rushed into surgery immediately after being shot and remains hospitalized.

The complaint says other people who attended a party at 2608 Bartelt Rd. last Friday night also feared being shot. When police arrived they found dozens of people running away from the scene while others "hunkered down" in the hallways, the complaint said.

Police have previously said at least a dozen rounds were fired during the incident. It's still not clear exactly how many shooters were involved.

Police charged Devasier Cungtion, 20, with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and reckless use of a firearm on Friday. They're filed warrants for three other missing suspects: Gage Rupp, Travonte Hughes and Dimione Walker. Investigators say more charges are possible.

"[Cungtion] according to eye witness accounts was involved in this shooting and was observed aiming his gun at this apartment building, shooting into the apartment where the victim was shot," the complaint says.

Sgt. Vicki Lalla of the Iowa City police department said the other three suspects in the case are to be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on the three men who are not in custody is asked to call Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers at 358-TIPS.
