WEST DES MOINES, Iowa Imagine being able to text or call your doctor on his or her personal cellphone and get in for an appointment within 24 hours. That's the concept behind one of the metro's newest medical practices.
Opening Concierge Medicine Iowa in West Des Moines only two months ago, Dr. Trae Ingram offers the kind of care the name of his practice implies.
"We're trying to add that personalization back to the doctor-patient relationships, so we're trying to make it as easy as possible for you to get to see the doctor or talk to the doctor," said Ingram.
To make sure that's possible, he plans to only see 300 patients total.
"We try to make it fit into your lifestyle instead of disrupt it," said Ingram. "You call the office, you call my cellphone, you text me, email me and we set something up."
Ingram said that's the way medicine used to be and the concept might be restarting an old trend.
"I think it's the wave of the future. I really do. With all the changes in health care i think this is probably where we're headed," said Ingram.
Ingram said he doesn't plan to see more than 10 people a day so he can give each patient more time.
Right now he has 28 patients, and is thinking he'll take about 300 total.
The concierge care requires a monthly or annual fee ranging from about $125 to $200 per month, depending on your age.
Ingram said patients have no co-pays or any extra fees.
