New Bus Station to Open in Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Buses will roll out of the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority's new downtown facility for the first time on Friday.
The new station replaces a transit hub on a busy downtown street that was viewed as outdated and bad for business in Des Moines.
The Des Moines Register says Walnut Street will now slowly be opened for traffic for the first time since 1980s.
City leaders are hoping to transform the bus-free street into a bustling retail and nightlife center in the near future.
