Nearly All Statehouse Democrats Back Braley

By Katie Stinson

DES MOINES, Iowa - Almost all Democrats in the Legislature are supporting Congressman Bruce Braley's run for the US Senate.

Iowa's First District Congressman wants to replace Tom Harkin who is not running for re-election next year. The Des Moines Register reports 71-of the 73 Democratic state lawmakers have endorsed Braley's campaign.

Only two Democratic House members didn't voice support for Braley. They are Pat Murphy of Dubuque and Kevin McCarthy of Des Moines. Murphy is running to fill Braley's seat in Congress.

So far no Republicans have officially said they'll run for Harkin's seat, although Fourth District Congressman Steve King is considering it.
