MARION, Iowa - A spokesperson for the Iowa National Guard said Monday that pilots conducted routine night vision training over the city of Marion late Sunday evening.

Col. Gregory Hapgood said the helicopter pilots were running tests on a spotlight system that has the ability to lock on to a specific address or set of coordinates. He said the residences they were using for the training were owned by people who had already been notified.

Hapgood said the Iowa National Guard doesn't typically notify local law enforcement of training exercises, but that they do work with local Federal Aviation Administration officials before conducting them.
