Mystique Casino President Says No Need for Another Iowa Casino

  • Photo
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The president of one Dubuque casino is speaking out against the proposal for a Cedar Rapids casino. The Mystique Casino President and C.E.O. Jesus Aviles says he doesn't believe there is a need for another casino in eastern Iowa. He believes customers are satisfied with the current number of casinos in this area.

Diamond Jo Casino Spokesperson, Carrie Tedore said, "After the Linn County vote, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission may decide to conduct a study to determine the proposed casino's projected impact to existing casinos."

Tedore said she can not comment on the projected impact, because the Diamond Jo has not conducted that kind of study. Tedore also said the Diamond Jo Casino is not giving any money to the "Vote No" campaign in Linn County. Tedore says right now, it's a local issue in Linn County so the Diamond Jo will not be making a statement about that proposed casino.

Aviles says Mystique also is not giving any money to the "Vote No" campaign. He says because Mystique is a non profit organization, they can not and will not give money to any campaign.
