IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The mysterious winner of an Iowa Lottery jackpot worth millions is in no rush to get the money.
Iowa Lottery officials said Thursday the New York attorney representing a trust who turned in the winning Hot Lotto ticket minutes before the Dec. 29 deadline cancelled plans to meet with them this week.
Lottery CEO Terry Rich said attorney Crawford Shaw had to delay the trip a day and has another commitment that meant he could have only spent about an hour in Iowa. Rich says Shaw feared that wouldn't be enough time to answer everyone's questions, but no future meeting has been set.
The winner has until Feb. 27 to decide whether to take a cash payment of $7.53 million after taxes or annual payments of $400,000 for 25 years.
