Musicians Help Make Movie Magic at Linn-Mar High School

MARION, Iowa -- Music, film, and art are coming together for a unique project at Linn-Mar High School. Orchestra students are recording a soundtrack for a student made film featuring local artists.

The song they are recording is called A Mother's Aria, it was written by the orchestra's director, Josh Reznicow.

The project, more than a year in the making, is a unique opportunity for the string students, who normally just practice to play at a concert. This project has given them a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to record like a professional musician.

"Films and movies is something students love to see and be a part of this is a great opportunity not only to do that with our own orchestra program, but with one of their colleagues, one of their student. It's something different, something that's not part of our normal concert set. It's nice to do something off the beaten path," said Reznicow.

The music will be the soundtrack for a short 5 minute film, made by Linn Mar senior Sam Fathallah. Students just finished recording the music this week, so Fathallah can add it to the otherwise finished film.

The movie will premier at the Linn-Mar High School Orchestra concert on Feb. 20.
