IOWA CITY, Iowa - A 38-year-old Muscatine man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 12 in Iowa City on Dec. 6.
Scott Allen Griffey was arrested and booked into the Johnson County Jail on Friday on suspicion of felony second-degree sexual abuse. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
Griffey is accused of going into the victim's bedroom while everyone else in the house was asleep and beginning by touching her leg, according to an Iowa City criminal complaint. The victim then told investigators that Griffey performed a sex act on her, which caused her pain, police reported.
The victim reported the incident to trusted adults, who called authorities, according to the complaint. Medical personnel documented injuries to the victim consistent with her telling of the incident, police reported.
Griffey told police he was not awake and had no contact with the victim during the period of time she said he assaulted her, according to the complaint. But witnesses said Griffey was awake and with the victim at the time of the alleged assault.
Griffey is being held in the Johnson County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 cash-only bond.
