CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - More than 30 men and women have been arrested as part of a Linn County prostitution sting that was carried out over the last three days.

Several local law enforcement agencies including the Linn County Sheriff's office, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Marion Police Department worked together t0 apprehend the suspects and charge them with prostitution. Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner said the stings took place at multiple hotels in Linn County. While he wouldn't divulge the exact names and locations of the hotels, Gardner said one took place at a hotel in Marion on the operation's first day and another took place at a hotel in Cedar Rapids on the second day.

Gardner said officials first received information about possible prostitution in Linn County when officers from local agencies assisted on a similar bust in Coralville earlier this year. He said officials began moving on the case based on activity seen at a number of places online, but would not divulge any of the specific sites.

"If you want to sell a lawnmower, you go to a certain site," Gardner said of how officials went about the bust. "If you want to find a prostitute, you go to the same site."

Gardner said "the vast majority" of those involved in the sting had been taken into custody as of Friday afternoon and said the operation officially stopped this afternoon.
