Minivan Rollover Kills One, Injures Five Children
PLEASANT HILL, Iowa (AP) - Authorities are investigating a rollover crash that killed the driver and injured seven passengers in a minivan that was crossing Iowa.
The Polk County Sheriff's office says the crash happened on Highway 65 near Pleasant Hill on Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff's office says a rear tire blew out on the minivan before the accident. That caused the northbound vehicle to cross the median into the southbound lanes.
Deputies found the van sitting upside down after it rolled.
There were three adults and five juveniles in the van.
The sheriff's office says 49-year-old Simon Kumeso Makanda was killed in the crash. The Jefferson City, Mo., man was driving the minivan.
The other seven individuals were injured and taken to area hospitals.
