CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The heat wave will continue Thursday. Heat index values in the afternoon will likely be into the 100-110 range, especially south of Highway 20, with air temperatures up into the middle to upper 90s.

Thursday night, a chance of storms exists into early Friday morning. Friday night and Saturday night are two more time periods where storms could fire up, especially in this hot air mass that we have out there.

There doesn't appear to be a break from the heat, but there will be slight cooling this weekend with highs around 90. Much of next week is looking hot once again.

Several cooling centers will be open across eastern Iowa. In Cedar Rapids, the Salvation Army on 100 C Ave. NW will be open from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. In Iowa City, you can stay cool at any public building. In Dubuque, a cooling center opens at 11 a.m. at the Multicultural Family Center.
