DUBUQUE - Convicted murderer Michael Mayton now faces another charge after hitting Dubuque County Attorney Ralph Potter.
On Friday authorities charged Mayton, 41, with willful injury causing bodily harm.
Mayton was found guilty last month of second-degree murder in connection with the Aug. 15, 2009 stabbing death of David Tate.
After the verdict was read, witnesses say Mayton raised his arms above his head and hit Potter in the head with his handcuffs.
Potter was taken to the hospital for head injuries and was treated and released.
Mayton remains in the Dubuque County Jail while he awaits sentencing.
