Man Arrested in Indiana After Escaping Work Release in Cedar Rapids
FORT WAYNE, Indiana - Sheriff's deputies at the Allen County jail confirm they have arrested one of the men connected to an incident that severely injured a Cedar Rapids police officer.
Maurice Harden escaped from a work release facility in Cedar Rapids in January. Harden was serving probation at the Lary A. Nelson Center in Cedar Rapids when he escaped.
Harden was convicted of first degree robbery in connection with the March 29, 2009 robbery of David Scanlon and Austin Switalski. Cedar Rapids police officer Tim Davis responded and attempted to stop Jose Rockiett, who was one of two others involved in the robbery with Harden.
Rockiett hit Davis in the head with a gun, knocking him out. Davis suffered a fractured skull after falling and hitting his head on the street. Harden wasn't around when Rockiett hit Davis.
