USS Iowa Mast
Tuesday a barge crane lifts the mast decking over a hundred feet replacing it back on the USS Iowa. The deck is used to place antennas and radar equipment. The tower of the mast reaches up an additional sixty feet. This is the last major piece to be replaced on the ship before it is towed to Los Angeles in May. The deck was removed by the navy in 2001 so it could clear an area bridge for storage. (Mark Benischek/The Gazette-KCRG)
