IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City officials say removing a massive tree from an Iowa River dam will be a challenge. The tree is stuck under the pedestrian bridge that connects Iowa City to Coralville. While the tree is just feet from Coralville, the removal will be up to Iowa City since they own the bridge.

"We may have to cut it up and let it go down river, unfortunately," said Ron Knoche, Iowa City engineer.

The tree is several hundred years old, stretching at least 75 feet in length. Knoche said removal is still several months away.

Another tree overtopped the dam before crashing into a removable flood wall going up alongside the Iowa River Power Restaurant. Several steel bars were damaged by the tree, which also has yet to be removed.
