Mason City Plans To Auction Flood-Damaged Homes

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — Mason City officials have completed plans to auction eight more homes abandoned after the June 2008 flooding.

The Mason City Globe-Gazette says demolition of other homes is continuing.

Three of the properties will be open for viewing on April 30. A walking tour of the five remaining properties is scheduled for May 3.

The houses have been boarded up for some time, and there is no power or artificial lighting available inside.

The auctions are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. on May 12 at City Hall. The homes must be moved off their sites by Sept. 9.

The city's website, www.masoncity.net , has photos and information on each of the houses.
