CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A 32-year-old Marion man was sentenced last week to more than nine years in federal prison for possessing child pornography.
James Sullivan pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in January. During the plea hearing, he admitted to possessing more than 7,000 images and more than 275 videos of child pornography in 2011.
According to sentencing documents, Sullivan started using heroin and was convicted of distributing heroin within 1,000 feet of a school and was sentenced to two years in prison in 2011. He distributed heroin to a person who had been admitted to a local hospital for a heroin overdose.
Authorities discovered the child pornography evidence during their investigation of the heroin case, according to sentencing documents.
Sullivan will also be on an eight year term of supervised release after serving his prison time and must comply with all sex offender registration requirements.
