Man in Custody Following Independence Standoff

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa - Independence Police responded to a report of a man with a gun around 10:40 p.m. Thursday. Officers responded to the scene at 101 16th Ave NW, where the man shut himself inside his apartment.

After a two hour standoff, police were able to get 50-year-old Daniel Flack to leave his apartment and took him into custody. Flack faces several charges including assault on a peace officer with a dangerous weapon, intimidation, going armed with intent, harrassment and threat of terrorism.

The Buchanan County Sheriffs Office, Jesup Police, Fairbank Police and Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.

The investigation into this standoff continues Friday morning.
