CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) A Cedar Rapids man has been given more than five years in federal prison for selling prescription methadone that contributed to two drug overdose deaths.

Tim Bowen II had pleaded guilty in October to one count of distribution of methadone, a powerful pain reliever. Prosecutors say Bowen was sentenced on Wednesday to 63 months imprisonment. He also was ordered to pay more than $2,300 restitution to the family of one of the people who died.

At the October hearing Bowen said he was prescribed methadone for an injury and started selling the pills to various individuals in 2010. He admitted that he sold 60 pills to an individual from Hiawatha, who later died along with another person who used a combination of drugs, including Bowen's methadone.
