MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) A Georgia man found guilty of killing a flight attendant outside Atlanta in 1995 has been sentenced to a life prison term plus 47 years.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Waseem Daker insisted that he was wrongly convicted moments before he was sentenced on Monday.

Daker was convicted of killing 30-year-old Karmen Smith and stabbing her 5-year-old son Nick, who survived the attack.

Prosecutors said DNA evidence tied Daker to the crime. Daker called the evidence flawed and said it pointed to another assailant, not him.

Friends said Smith attended Williamsburg High School in Iowa. Her job as a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines was her first job after graduation from college.
