Man Injured in Fall from Waterloo Railroad Bridge
WATERLOO, Iowa - Crews with Waterloo Fire Rescue took a man to the hospital after he fell from a downtown bridge Thursday night.
The accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. as the man was crossing the Cedar River on the railroad bridge downstream from the Sixth Street bridge.
He fell about 15 feet, landing on the rocks on shore, police and firefighters said. The man, whose identity wasn't immediately available, called dispatchers with his cell phone and reported his location.
Firefighters, paramedics and police found him quickly, and he was loaded onto a backboard. They carried him to an ambulance and took him to a local hospital.
The Sixth Street bridge was closed briefly during the operation.
