GARNER, Iowa (AP) — A northern Iowa man who has been given two years of probation after being convicted of bestiality.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that 50-year-old Steven Schindler was given a deferred judgment, which means that the crime will be removed from his record if he successfully completes the probation.
Online court records say Schindler made an Alford plea before sentencing on Tuesday. Under an Alford plea, he didn't admit guilt but agreed evidence likely existed for a conviction.
The judge ordered Schindler to complete a psychological evaluation and all treatment recommendations.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Office says Schindler was delivering or pretending to deliver propane gas to a residence in rural Britt on Feb. 20 when he performed a sex act on a dog there.
