Man Faces 1st-Degree Murder Charge in Ames Shooting

  • Photo
AMES, Iowa (AP) - A man has been charged with first-degree murder in the December shooting death of a man in Ames.

The Ames Police Department says 32-year-old Leigh Lepon, of Boone, faces the charge in connection with the death of 38-year-old Devlin F. Lockman. Court records do not list an attorney.

Lockman was found dead at an Ames house on the night of Dec. 20. He had a gunshot wound to the head.

Police originally said the shooting was accidental. The charge against Lepon comes after an investigation that involved new witness information, additional forensic evidence and autopsy results.

Authorities have not released additional information about the shooting. Lepon remains at the Story County Jail on multiple charges in connection to at least one other case.
