DES MOINES, Iowa - A man has died from injuries he suffered when he fell from a sixth story window Thursday afternoon in downtown Des Moines.

The incident happened about 2:20 p.m. at 1101 Crocker St., a high-rise apartment building called Royal View Manor.

The 59-year-old man fell about 69 feet. A torn window screen can be seen from the ground by witnesses.

Neighbors started CPR on the man who wasn't breathing following the fall.

Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Loren Halifax said, "The window, as we understand it, was intact and fully operational. That's what we now right now. How the screen got ripped - at this point we don't know."

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, his name hasn't been released.
