Man Accused of Setting Fire to Rented Home

  • Photo
EVANSDALE, Iowa (AP) A 24-year-old man has been arrested, charged with setting fire to a home he was renting in the northeast Iowa city of Evansdale.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says Wayne McCormick was arrested earlier this week. Online records say McCormick remained in Black Hawk County Jail on Thursday, pending $20,000 bail. Online court records don't list the name of his attorney.

Police say McCormick was living at the Evansdale house when the fire occurred in the basement on Nov. 19. Evansdale Police and Fire Chief Kent Smock says investigators determined the fire was started in an upholstered chair.

Smock says McCormick had been living at the Evansdale address since moving from a home in Coulter where there had been two suspicious fires.
