IOWA CITY, Iowa - A man accused in the death of his girlfriend's 20-month-old son is free from the Johnson County jail after posting $10 thousand bond Thursday night. Jail officials confirmed Jorge Perez, 22, posted the necessary 10 percent of a $100 thousand bond around seven p.m., Thursday.

Perez, according to investigators, has admitted to hitting the child, Marcus Balderas in the face with his knuckles, holding a pillow over the child's head, stepping on his stomach and throwing him up without catching him.

Balderas died in April of last year. In June of 2012 Perez and his girlfriend Mireya Balderas were both arrested after an investigation into the case.
Perez faces a charge of child endangerment resulting in death. If convicted he could face up to 50 years in prison.
