DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A man has accepted a $75,000 judgment from the city of Des Moines in connection to an altercation at his wedding reception involving a police officer repeatedly punching him.

John Twombly recently accepted the confession of judgment from the city. It is not an admission of guilt from Des Moines, but an acknowledgement that a jury could have found a similar judgment against the city had the case gone to trial.

The Des Moines Register reports Twombly filed a federal lawsuit in 2013 claiming officer Cody Grimes used excessive force against the groom at his 2011 wedding reception. Grimes was called to the reception to break up a fight between Twombly and a groomsman.

A public phone number listing for Grimes was not available.
