WINDSOR HEIGHTS, Iowa (AP) - A stranger who found it has returned a lost wedding ring to a grieving suburban Des Moines family.

The Des Moines Register says the ring belonged to a man who had died just hours after he lost it outside a Hy-Vee store in Windsor Heights.

Tom Barnabo found the ring Saturday and left his phone number with store workers.

Michael and Patricia Murrane had gone to the store earlier for juice, hoping it would help him feel better. Later that night Michael Murrane was hospitalized. He died Sunday morning.

Relatives couldn't find his ring, and his daughter Mary Murrane stopped by the store on Tuesday to inquire. Workers gave her Barnabo's number. The two met later in the day, and she gratefully hugged him when he returned the ring.
