JOHNSTON, Iowa (AP) — Key Republican and Democratic lawmakers say Gov. Terry Branstad's proposal for a $190 million tax increase on Iowa's state-licensed casinos has little chance of winning approval this year.

Senate Ways and Means Committee Chairman Joe Bolkcom and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Thomas Sands say there is little support for Branstad's plan to raise casino taxes. Bolkcom says lawmakers will negotiate with Branstad to figure out ways to replace the money the increased tax would have generated.

The legislators also say there is little chance the Legislature will approve a proposed increase in Iowa's gasoline tax.

The two spoke Friday during a taping of Iowa Public Television's "Iowa Press" program.
