Lee County Approves Panel To Discuss Consolidating County's Two Seats
MONTROSE, Iowa (AP) Lee County officials have approved the formation of a citizen's group to study options for consolidation in the county, which has seats in Fort Madison and Keokuk.
The Burlington Hawk Eye reports the Lee County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 Tuesday for the citizen's committee.
Mary VanPelt suggested the creation of the group following an informational forum in March. The forum was aimed at discussing options to consolidate work within the county's two seats.
VanPelt says she wants to end the county's 150-year feud between Keokuk and Fort Madison.
Vice Chairman Matt Pflug opposed the committee. He says the county should hire an outside source to study the issue. VanPelt says she hopes the committee will hold its first meeting at the end of April.
