Lawmaker: Waterloo Slow to Respond to Info Request

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Public Information Board says a lawmaker's complaint about the city of Waterloo's slow response to a public records request has been resolved informally.

Rep. Dawn Pettengill, R-Mount Auburn, filed a complaint with the board alleging Waterloo violated the law by not responding to her request for information about its pension system in a timely manner.

Pettengill filed the request Nov. 20, and did not receive the information until Jan. 9. The law says requests should get a response within 20 days.

A city attorney told the board that the delay was unintentional and caused by miscommunication and staffing shortages around the Holidays.

Board executive director Keith Luchtel said in a Monday letter to Pettengill he's dismissing the complaint since Waterloo acknowledged the delay. The board meets Thursday.
