Cheryl Gotto said she wanted new carpet in her permanent home in the Linden Acres area on Lake Delhi, but not like this.
Her and her husband, Jerry Gotto, have lived on the property at 26355 212th Avenue since 1993, and had never seen anything like this. The most the water had ever come close to the couple’s home was the first step on the deck, and even then it had several feet to go before reaching the first floor den.
But at midnight on Saturday, Jerry awoke to go to the bathroom and Cheryl decided to get up as well and noticed the water creeping up the deck. She went to the backyard and saw there was “a pond” outside. They grabbed her purse, his billfold, and his medicine, as he had recently undergone a hip replacement. They took off to go to a friend’s home where they stayed.
Sunday has been spent with friends and family cleaning up the mess and throwing out furniture, carpet, appliances and other possessions.
