BRIGHTON, Iowa - A Gate Setting ceremony was held Wednesday at "Lake Darling" State Park to begin refilling the lake.

The lake was emptied as part of a renovation project that included building a new dam, lake restoration, as well as beach and campground renewals.

The project cost more than $12 million and a grand opening is planned for late this summer or early fall. During the project the dam was replaced and the lake level was raised two feet. Also built were new roads, a campground, boat ramps, the beach, a fishing bridge and park lodge.

Trails also were refurbished. Lake Darling State Park, dedicated in 1950, is three miles west of Brighton.
