CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The prosecution continues its case 9 a.m. today in the Lee Muldoon murder trial after emotions got heated Tuesday over a state’s witness claiming Muldoon made what could be a damaging statement to him and the defense asked for a mistrial.

Sixth Judicial District Judge Marsha Bergan denied the motion but allowed the defense to take a deposition of the witness after court adjourned on Tuesday.
Muldoon is accused of killing his former girlfriend’s daughter 2-year-old Skylar Inman. Skylar died July 11, 2008 from blunt force injuries to her abdomen.

The trial is expected to last about two or more weeks.

Trish Mehaffey will continue her live coverage from the Linn County District courtroom.
