Korean War Vet Receives Service Medals

By Brandi Bachman

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - A Korean War veteran was given his service medals Friday decades after serving his country. Harold Fruchenticht was discharged from the Navy after a back injury in 1951. A fire at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis destroyed his records, so he never received his medals.

"I didn't really know until today that I was going to get more than one," Fruchenticht said.

Fruchenticht was given five for his service.
