KNOXVILLE, Iowa - A Knoxville high school employee is off the job, as police investigate an incident that reportedly happened with a student.

The Knoxville superintendent says the district suspended the employee after a mother and daughter reported the incident Tuesday.

School officials are releasing few details about the allegation of misconduct, but say they're cooperating with the Knoxville Police in the investigation.

One parent says a school is the last place a parent should have to worry about their child's safety.

"Being a member of the community, it's important for me to know that the kids are safe here and the teachers at the high school are conducting themselves in an appropriate manner in regards to the children and the children's safety," said Jacob Meggers.

No charges have been filed in the matter. The police chief says the investigation could take days or even weeks to complete.

The district says the employee will remain on paid leave during the investigation.
