Kirkwood, U. Iowa to Break Ground on New Center
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Leaders of Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa are ready to break ground on a new education center aimed at preparing students for careers in so-called STEM fields.
A ceremonial groundbreaking is scheduled Friday afternoon for the Kirkwood Regional Center, which will be located at the UI Research Park in Coralville.
College and university officials say the center will mark an unusual partnership between their institutions that will expand access to higher education for area high school students and adults. They say the center, scheduled to open by fall 2015, will offer classes in science, technology, engineering, math and other fields aimed at providing career options for students.
The center will also give UI education students and professors a place to try out cutting-edge teaching strategies.
