Jury Selection Continues in Iowa Slaying Trial

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) - Jury selection continues in the trial of a former Iowa jail guard accused of killing of his pregnant wife.

Multiple perspective jurors were questioned Tuesday in Henry County during the second day of jury selection in the trial for 23-year-old Seth Techel, of Agency.

The Ottumwa Courier reports several people expressed concern about missing work, but Judge Dan Wilson said he would deny most work-related excuses. Most perspective jurors said they could be impartial in the case.

Seth Techel is charged with first-degree murder and non-consensual termination of a human pregnancy in the May 2012 death of Lisa Techel and their unborn child.

Techel's trial was moved from Ottumwa to Mount Pleasant because of publicity surrounding the first trial, which ended in mistrial in March.
