BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) - A Burlington man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the August 2012 shooting death of his wife.
The Burlington Hawk Eye reports that a jury found 39-year-old Chico Newman guilty on Friday. His attorney, Curtis Dial, said he will appeal the verdict. A conviction of first-degree murder in Iowa carries and automatic sentence of life in prison without parole.
Newman fatally shot 32-year-old Crystal Newman during an argument at their Burlington home on Aug. 9, 2012. He was not arrested until Feb. 25, when he was found at a motel near the Quad City International Airport in Moline, Ill.
