Judge to Rule on Ex-Davenport Alderman's Motion
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A Scott County Associate District judge says she will rule later on a former Davenport city alderman's motion to have an assault charge against him dismissed.
The Quad-City Times reports that 71-year-old Keith Meyer, who is representing himself, expressed frustration that he could not call witnesses during the hearing Friday on his motion. Judge Cheryl Traum explained that court procedure does not allow witness testimony during hearings on such motions. She also encouraged him to hire a lawyer.
Meyer is accused of threatening his neighbor with a gun. He is charged with assault while displaying a weapon.
Meyer served as Davenport's third ward alderman for several terms. He lost his re-election bid in 2007.
