BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — A judge has denied a request for a new trial for a Burlington man convicted of burning down his house.

Sixty-six-year-old Kenneth Dix was convicted last month of second-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief in the October 2009 fire.

The Hawk Eye in Burlington says Des Moines County District Judge John Wright ruled against Dix's request last Thursday.

In his request, Dix argued, among other issues, that the court abused its discretion in not allowing his trial to be delayed. Wright, in his ruling, noted the court had granted many continuances in the case.

Dix's sentencing is set for Jan. 24.
