Judge Declares Mistrial in Techel Murder Case
OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — Prosecutors in the murder case of an Iowa man charged with killing his pregnant wife say they will seek a new trial.
An Ottumwa jury told a judge Friday it was deadlocked in the trial of Seth Techel after several days of deliberations. The judge declared a mistrial. Techel is charged with murder and nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy in connection with the May 26 death of his wife, Lisa Techel. Prosecutors say Seth Techel wanted to end his marriage but feared alienation from her father, a sheriff's deputy. A spokesman for the attorney general's office, which is leading the prosecution, says a new trial will be sought. Techel's defense was that a neighbor may have killed Lisa Techel. Most Popular |
