Johnson County Metro Dive Team Making Impact After Return
By Mark Carlson, Reporter
IOWA CITY, Iowa - After returning in 2012 the Johnson County Metro Dive Team is making a positive impact on the area, according to Johnson County Emergency Management coordinator Dave Wilson.
“We need a dive team here in Johnson County,” Wilson said. “We have a lot of aquatic related calls in this county.”
The dive team returned in 2012 after dissolving about five years ago. The team vanished after members retired or moved on, said Wilson.
The team is made up of about 10 firefighters, public servants and a couple citizens. It cost the county about $40 thousand to restart, but much of that was paid for with a federal grant.
So far the divers have recovered a stolen car, motorcycle, several weapons and an object used in an attempted murder case.
