INDEPENDENCE, Iowa A Jesup man was sentenced to prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to charges involving two minors.

Todd E. Caldwell, 49, was convicted of one count of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse resulting in bodily injury, and one count of indecent contact with a child. Officials said the charges involve two children who were under the age of 12 at the time of the offenses. Buchanan County Attorney Shawn Harden said the acts occurred over a span of nearly two years, beginning in January 2010.

Caldwell received a five-year prison sentence on the assault charge and a two-year prison sentence on indecent contact charge. The sentences will run concurrently, Harden said.

Upon completion of his prison sentences, Caldwell will have to register as a sex offender and serve 10 years of supervision by the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.
