Jackson County Head-on Crash Kills One, Injures Two Others

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - A crash on Highway 64 just west of Maquoketa has killed an 83-year-old woman and injured two others.

The crash happened at 6:50 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Highway 64 and 24th St. in Jackson County.

83-year-old Jacqueline Fischer of Lost Nation, Iowa was driving her 1998 Pontiac Bonneville east on Highway 64 when she crossed the center line. She hit a 2004 Hyundai Sonata driven by 30-year-old Zachary Schmidt of Maquoketa head on.

Fischer died in the crash. Schmidt was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by MedForce. An ambulance took Bridgit Morgan, 24, to Maquoketa Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
