It's A Hot One
By Kaj O'Mara, Meteorologist
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Hot weather is returning across the state of Iowa this afternoon with highs of 90-95 degrees and dew points on average around 75. A Heat Advisory is in effect. This will lead to high heat index values of 100-105 degrees across the area. Tomorrow, the weather will be similar, but most locations will see middle 90s as opposed to lower 90s so heat index values may peak at 106 or 107 by mid to late Friday afternoon. However, a few days of weather like this is pretty common in Iowa, and common sense heat tips should be used, such as proper hydration and breaks through the day.
Friday night, a cold front moves through triggering some scattered storms. This storm chance appears to be confined to midnight to 6 a.m., with much of the precipitation out of the way by early morning Saturday. Festivities should be good to go on Saturday. Much of Sunday looks dry as well, though a chance of storms does exist by Monday, mainly the afternoon and evening at this time. Holiday weekend temperatures should remain in the middle and upper 80s.
